Delete Account and Data
Last updated:
This page explains how to delete your Jelajah Masjid account and your data — through the jelajahmasjid.com site, through the Jelajah Masjid Android app, or by email if you can no longer sign in. Below, we detail what data is deleted, what data is retained, and why.
1. How to Delete Your Account
There are three ways. Choose one.
a. Through the website (all account types)
- Open jelajahmasjid.com/me and sign in to your account.
- Select the Profile tab, then open the Danger zone section at the bottom.
- Press Delete my account.
- If your account uses a password: enter your password, then press Yes, delete my account. The account is deleted immediately.
- If you sign in with Google: press Send deletion confirmation. We send a link to your account email address, and the account is deleted when you click that link.
b. Through the Android app
- Open Profile → Settings, scroll to the bottom, then choose Delete Account.
- Enter your account password and confirm (your device may ask for a fingerprint or PIN).
The app asks for a password. If your account was created with Sign in with Google and you have never set a password, use option (a) or (c).
c. By email (if you cannot sign in or have already removed the app)
Email salam@jelajahmasjid.com from your account email address, with the subject "Delete account". State that account email address. We verify the request through the sender address, then delete the account within 30 days of receiving the request, and let you know when it is done.
2. Data That Is Deleted
When account deletion completes, the following data is permanently removed from our systems and cannot be recovered:
- Account profile — name, display name, email address, profile photo, gender, date of birth, domicile, Telegram account, and the record of when you accepted the terms of service.
- Credentials and sessions — your password (stored encrypted), the link from your account to Google along with its access tokens, and all login sessions on every device.
- The ustadz and mosques you follow.
- The lectures you have saved.
- Your notification and reminder preferences.
- Queued lecture reminders not yet sent, including the email address attached to that queue.
- Your notification inbox in the app and on the site.
- The account activity history we keep for audit purposes.
3. Data That Is Retained
To be clear and honest, there are three things that are not deleted:
- The notification registration on your device. We detach this from your account rather than delete it, because the registration belongs to the device — not to the account. After the account is deleted, the device can still receive prayer-time and adhan notifications that do not require an account. To stop them, turn off notifications in the app settings or uninstall the app.
- A technical record of live-broadcast notification delivery. We keep a "this notification has already been sent" marker containing an internal account ID and a video ID — no name, no email, no content of any kind. This marker keeps a notification from being sent twice.
- The contributions you have submitted. Explained in the next section.
If you want the last two removed as well, send that request to salam@jelajahmasjid.com and we will handle it manually.
4. Published Contributions
If you have submitted lecture, mosque, ustadz, or photo data through the Contribute feature, the following remains stored after your account is deleted:
- Your contributor record (the name and email address recorded at your first contribution, and the number of contributions).
- The content of your submissions and the photos you uploaded.
- The submitter name shown on content that has been published.
The reason: a submission that has been moderated and published has become part of the public content of the service, and showing the submitter name is a form of credit for that submission.
You still have the right to request its deletion. Email salam@jelajahmasjid.com and state what you are asking for — removing the submitter name shown, removing a photo you uploaded, or removing your contributor record along with its email address. You can make this request before or after deleting your account, and we process it within 30 days.
5. Deleting Some Data Without Deleting Your Account
You do not have to delete your account to remove specific data. Email salam@jelajahmasjid.com from your account email address, state which data you want removed, and we process it within 30 days.
Requests you can make:
- The lectures you have saved, and the ustadz and mosques you follow — you can also remove these yourself at any time directly in the app or on the site.
- Optional profile data — gender, date of birth, domicile, and Telegram account. You can clear these yourself from the Profile page.
- Your device notification registration, if you want to stop receiving notifications without deleting your account.
- Photos or posters you uploaded through the Contribute feature.
- The submitter name shown on a published contribution, and your contributor record along with its email address.
Details of what data is retained and why are in sections 3 and 4 above.
6. Processing Time
- Through the site or app: deletion runs immediately. For Google accounts, deletion runs when you click the confirmation link in the email.
- By email: within 30 days of us receiving and verifying the request.
- Once deleted, an account cannot be recovered. You can still register again at any time with the same email address, but as a new, empty account.
7. Before You Delete
- Save any lecture notes you need first — your saved list cannot be restored.
- Removing the app from your device does not delete your account. Use one of the methods in section 1.
- Deleting your account does not stop prayer-time notifications on your device. Turn off notifications in the app settings or uninstall the app.
